German Commercial Block Miniature Paper Model - by Pastor Pixel

Occupying only one printed sheet, this beautiful miniature paper model of a German commercial block was created by the graphic designer Michael Albers, from the Pastor Pixel website.

Unfortunately, the website is no longer active, but since I had the template saved on an old CD, I took the liberty of publishing it here on the blog, giving proper credit to Mr. Michael Albers.

I liked the model so much that I decided to virtually build it in 3D using Sketchup.

Therefore, below I provide the link to the paper model as well as another link to the 3D model for those who want to view and manipulate it virtually. Please note that you need to have some version, even if it's free, of Sketchup or Trimble for that.

A Simple Wooden House - by Papermau -The 3D Sketchup Version
Download Now!

Three days ago I posted here on the blog a paper model of a wooden house. Today I leave you with the same model, but now in the Sketchup version, which is the model that can be viewed and manipulated in 3D on your computer, through the free program Kimble, which is nothing more than the old and glorious Sketchup.

I particularly like the older versions of Sketchup (especially version 6) more than the modern Kimble. Sketchup seems much more intuitive to me and its tools seem much better.

But that's my opinion, the opinion of a layman who only uses these programs to create paper models.

In the links at the end of the post, in addition to the file to download the 3D version of the wooden house, I will also leave links to Trimble on the official website (look for the free version) and to the old Sketchup 6 (I had saved this one here and saved it on my Google Drive), so you can draw your own conclusions. Have fun!

Designing A Simple Car Papercraft On Sketchup - Extended Version

Some friends of the blog ask about how I create my models. I have three ways to create paper models: drawing by hand, straight on paper, using ruler and pens; drawing directly in MsPaint, also using a ruler, but then I put the ruler directly on the monitor, a very crude way of making exact measurements.

In MsPaint I can also add textures taken from photos, simply using the native copy and paste tools. The third way to draw papercrafts, and one of the easiest and most fun, is using Sketchup (to draw) together with Pepakura (to unfold the models).

In the video below, you will see the development of a toy car in a very simple way. In the next video I will "unfold" the model using Pepakura and you will understand better how the process works. The video is 17 minutes long, but you can double or triple the speed because, after all, who has time to waste these days, right? Good week to everyone!

Medieval English House With Thatched Roof Paper Model - by Stasma

I do not know Stasma's nationality, but I know he's a great 3D designer who posts his work on the Turbosquid platform.

This English House with Thatched Roof is a free paper model, but in order to download it you have to register in Turbosquid, which is fast and also free. When you access the download page, you will find several files to download, all of which are viewed with 3D programs such as 3D Max, Autodesk, Maya, 3D Studio, etc.

One of them has the .OBJ termination. This is what we need to be able to print the paper template. It can be opened with the free version of Pepakura Viewer.

If you do not have Pepakura Viewer installed on your computer, you will find a link to download it at the end of this post.

Papermau Is Now Using Sketchfab To Create Manipulable 3D Models

I recently got to know this website called Sketchfab, which allows me to transform my Sketchup and Pepakura creations into 3D models that can be easily viewed and manipulated without the need to install any kind of program. With Sketchfab I can transpose the templates directly to my blog and you can rotate, zoom in and see each one in detail. An example can be seen above: just click with the mouse and with the right and left buttons you control spin and approach. I found this genius and I intend to use a lot here in the blog.
